Tailoring Teens for Success Spring 2012 Tailoring Teens for Success

January 7 - March 17, 2012 (Saturdays, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm)

Girl Talk's Tailoring Teens for Success curriculum is an 11-week character bulding program.  The program is designed to teach critical thinking, leadership skills and promote positive esteem to 35-40 young girls through a variety of sessions including, but not limited to, self-esteem, anger management, dating violence, etiquette/personal image, relationships and finance. Curriculum Graduation

Girl Talk rewards all program participants for completing the Girl Talk Tailoring Teens for Success curriculum with our signature recognition event, The Girl Talk Graduation Ceremony.

The ceremony, held at an offsite location, includes a special invited keynote speaker, graduation certificates and a life-long keepsake for each graduate that represent the principles of the Girl Talk Foundation, Inc.  The event includes food and live entertainment.

Community Service Project

Girl Talk emphasizes community service and volunteerism to all program participants through a Community Service project. 

Teen girls in the community are invited to participate in this project designed to improve the quality of life for residents in the Charlotte area.

Past Girl Talk service projects include:

  • Women and Children Emergency Shelter
    Girls served meals to homeless women and children
  • Crisis Assistance Ministry
    Girls sorted donated clothing items
  • Department of Social Services
    Girls collected money to provide Christmas gifts for needy families
  • WSOC School Tools Campaign
    Girls shopped for school supplies to give to needy children

Prom Project  (High School Girls Only)Prom Project 2011

2012 Prom Project Drop Off Locations


At the one-day event, girls choose their prom dress, shoes and accessories free of charge.  As a pre-requisite to shopping, girls also attend an etiquette class that includes hair, skin care, make-up tips and fashion advice.  The class is designed to provide girls with the skills needed to pull off a totally classy evening.

The following donations are needed:
  • Gently worn dresses (sizes 0-26) (prom, bridesmaids, cocktail and after five)
  • Gently worn shoes (sizes 0-12) (strappy sandals, pumps, mid to high heels)
  • Jewelry
  • Purses
  • Unused make-up and perfume

Donations are tax-deductible. Receipts can be obtained at the drop-off locations.  The Girl Talk Prom Project is sponsored in part by:

Girl Talk Jewels

Monthly every first Saturday; 10:00 am - noon

What happens after Girl Talk's Tailoring Teens for Success curriculum? Graduating girls then become Girl Talk Jewels. Girls meet monthly to continue building self-esteem and leadership. Girls coordinate community service events, create fundraisers as well as represent Girl Talk at various community activities including workshops, focus groups, parades and more.
To become a Girl Talk Jewel, girls must complete:
  • at least eight sessions of the Tailoring Teens for Success curriculum
  • a 100-word essay
  • an in-person interview with Girl Talk Jewel counselors

Wells Fargo College Tour

Girl Talk encourages higher education and provides the tools for girls to begin exploring career options. We offer the Wells Fargo College Tours twice a year. Girls visit diverse institutions ranging from private to state-supported schools; from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) to non-HBCUs; from large to small universities. The College Tour is an all-day experience, including transportation, snacks and lunch.
