Girl Talk Foundation, Inc. Announces New Leadership
Charlotte, NC – July 9, 2020 – For 17 years, Girl Talk Foundation has fulfilled its mission to transform the lives of girls’ ages 11 to 16 through character-building programs that develop self-awareness, self-management and social competence. To date more than 30,000 girls have been served through their signature programs ‘Tailoring Teens for Success’ and Prom Project.
Earlier this year, Girl Talk Foundation announced the transition of one of its signature programs to a new organization, due to increased demand and a desire to ensure continued growth. Prom Project’s new home is Lydia’s Loft of Huntersville, NC. More than1,000 girls were proudly served in the program this past March.
Today, we are happy to announce that former Girl Talk graduate Alyssa Shepard will run Girl Talk’s flagship program ‘Tailoring Teens for Success’. Shepard is a proud graduate of Johnson C. Smith University and currently serves as a marketing manager trainee in Food Lion’s Management program.
Shepard joined Girl Talk six years ago after moving from Connecticut to North Carolina. ”Alyssa was always a standout in the program. She is a born leader and has truth and honesty. Other girls in the program sensed her genuine compassion and were naturally drawn to her. I’ve witnessed her growth and I’m so proud of the strong, confident young lady she’s become. I’m excited about what’s next for her and Girl Talk”, says Executive Director Janine Davis.
Shepard says she’s ready for the job. “It is with honor and gratitude that I accept the responsibility of keeping the Girl Talk legacy going. This organization means so much to me. It is what I learned from Girl Talk that helped me overcome many obstacles I faced, shaping me into the woman and leader I am today. I look forward to taking Janine Davis’ vision of Girl Talk into the future eventually impacting teen girls across the globe.”
In addition to managing the “Tailoring Teens” program, Shepard will train with Davis to run the Girl Talk organization. Davis will resign as Executive Director by December 2020.
