Overview

“Tailoring Teens for Success” (TTFS) is a 13-week character-building and leadership development curriculum for girls (ages 11-16 years old). It is designed to transform the lives of girls so they become self-aware, self-managed, and socially competent. TTFS serves as Girl Talk’s core program.

Timeframe

Our next enrollment will open on Monday, June 2, 2025, for our first workshop that will kick off on Saturday, August 30, 2025. To graduate from the program, participants must attend at least 11 sessions. The sessions are held on Saturdays, depending on the week, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You will receive a curriculum calendar with all of the dates required for them to attend during the timeframe listed above. We will have a pause for Spring Break and the Easter Holiday. Girl Talk participants can’t miss more than 2 sessions to graduate.

We will announce the workshop locations once our enrollment period is closed. All locations for workshops will be in the surrounding areas of Charlotte. Example: Uptown Charlotte, University City, and South Charlotte.

Registration Fee

Curriculum fee (includes $3.00 processing fee) $200.00/per participant.

Purpose of Program

“Tailoring Teens for Success” provides a brave space for participants to address adolescent issues such as self-esteem, friendships, emotions, body image, tolerance/diversity, social media, and financial literacy to name a few. The overarching goal of the curriculum is to help and/or further develop participant’s skills in the areas of self-awareness, social-awareness and self-management.

A parent component is also included in the program. Parents of curriculum participants are required to attend four Parent Workshops during the 13 week curriculum that assists them in forming academic and social partnerships with their children.

“Tailoring Teens for Success” is a 13-week curriculum designed to:

  • Increase self-awareness (stronger sense of self)

  • Increase self-management (adapt and open to change; improve interaction with others)

  • Increase social competence (able to connect and lead with others)

  • Increase level of future orientation (increase interest in college or trade school)

  • What can girls expect at each session?

  • What will girls need to bring to each session?

    • Girls are required to bring their Girl Talk binder and any assignments to each session. Girls are also required to adhere to the dress code and are encouraged to dress comfortably because there is a fitness portion for each session.

  • What happens at the end of the curriculum?

    • NA graduation ceremony is held for girls who complete graduation requirement of the curriculum. Every girl receives a certificate and other keepsakes.

  • What are the girls required to do to COMPLETE the curriculum?

    • Each girl is required to attend and participate in 10 out of 13 sessions.

  • What happens AFTER the Girl Talk curriculum?

    • Girls who complete the curriculum automatically become members of the Girl Talk Jewels – who then meet periodically to continue to build character and leadership skills, perform community service, coordinate fundraisers and serve as the face for Girl Talk! Girls NOT completing the program can opt to retake the program or attend lessons missed during next offering of program.
